Limited Edition Print- Celia Hempton, Stromboli, 2014
Celia Hempton is a London-based British artist working across abstraction and figuration. She has shown at the 10th Gwangju Biennale, White Cube, and Victoria Miro.
This etching was sparked by a journey to Stromboli — the volcano's force and the particular condition of living beside it. Hempton was drawn to the island's inhabitants, who must constantly negotiate with something far larger than themselves. She sees in that relationship a mirror for human intimacy: the same need for compromise, the same imbalance of power.
All proceeds support the Villa Lena Foundation.
