Limited Edition Print- Celia Hempton, Stromboli, 2014
Celia Hempton, a London-based British artist, creates captivating abstract and figurative works across various mediums. With a rich exhibition history, including notable shows like the 10th Gwangju Biennale and exhibitions at White Cube and Victoria Miro, Celia Hempton's artistry leaves a lasting impression. Exploring the human form and its surroundings, her art reflects a deep connection to landscapes.
Inspired by her journey to the Stromboli volcano, Hampton’s dramatic etching captures the island's force and fury. Her work aims to reflect the relationship between humans and nature, in particular the island’s inhabitants, who must constantly reckon with the ever-present power of this volcano looming over their everyday life. Hampton likens this constant need for compromise to the human relationships she experiences in her life.
