Limited Edition Print - Butternutten AG, EUR - The Essence of Money, 2017

Butternutten AG is a design studio run by Oliver-Selim Boualam and Lukas Marstaller, based between Karlsruhe and Marrakesh. The duo met at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and built a practice around what they call a "Super Design Service" — work that sits at the intersection of art, design, and a deliberate sense of play.

For this etching, they worked as a true collaborative pair, exploring the relationship between money and art. Their material of choice: a "money essence oil" — a lubricant extracted from the tactile residue left on currency notes by human hands. The result is an artwork that makes visible what we rarely think about — the touch, the exchange, the weight of what money actually is.
