Limited Edition Print – Jay One Ramier, FEEL, 2014
Jay One Ramier is a foundational figure in French hip-hop and early European graffiti. He co-founded the "Bad Boys Crew" in 1982 and came up through the Parisian hip-hop scene of the '80s — a world of b-boys, rappers, and poppers that shaped everything he makes. His recent major exhibition was at the Palais de Tokyo in 2022.
His work merges visual art with lyrical expression — each image accompanied by a sentence, graffiti's aesthetic fused with poetry. He has shown at Galerie Lavignes Bastille, Milieu Gallery, and ABA Gallery.
For this print, Ramier worked on instinct — no preparation, no sketches. What he calls "voodoo art." The image that emerged is a portrait of French poet Léon-Gontran Damas in a hat: a symbol, for Ramier, of the freedom he was reaching for.
