Limited Edition Print – Alan Reid, Untitled, 2015
Alan Reid is a New York-based artist known for ethereal coloured-pencil works — heiresses, fashionistas, and graceful figures rendered with a provocative lightness. He has shown at Patricia Low Contemporary, Mary Mary in Glasgow, Talbot Rice in Edinburgh, and is included in Phaidon's "Vitamin D."
For this print, Reid looked to Il Bisonte's own history — its legacy of European masters — and sought American counterparts from the same era. The result is a striking zebra borrowed from A.E. Marty's famous 1926 Vogue cover, rearing against a fiery backdrop drawn from the work of social realist Ben Shahn. A transatlantic conversation across a century, made at the same press.
