Limited Edition Print - Jasmin Blasco, Untitled, 2014
Jasmin Blasco is a French-American artist, musician, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles.
In her own words:
"During my residency at Villa Lena I chose to develop a print to give form to my thinking about the process of creation — conceptualizing it as a gesture through time. My education in music technology predisposed me to think of visual representation of music not as a static record commemorating past music but rather as maps of possibilities for future musical expression.
The choice of high contrast white-on-black aesthetics is meant to evoke blueprints, engineering proposals for future construction. The Hand at the center of the composition figures as a reference to early music notation: the Guidonian Hand, a medieval mnemonic device for singing monks.
To create — in other words to "face the music" — is to place oneself in the present moment and to make a gesture towards the unknown."
All proceeds support the Villa Lena Foundation.
