Limited Edition Print - Moataz Nasr, TBT, 2015
Moataz Nasr, a self-taught artist, made a remarkable shift from economics to the vibrant art scene of Old Cairo. His local recognition and numerous awards paved the way for his international breakthrough in 2001, winning the Grand Prix at the Cairo Biennial. Nasr's art has since graced esteemed venues such as the Venice, Seoul, Sao Paulo, and Bogotà biennials, showcasing the rich complexities of pan-Arab contemporary art.
His work transcends boundaries, expressing the anxieties of the African continent while reflecting intricate cultural transformations within the Islamic world. Nasr stands as a prominent voice in the global art landscape.
During his time in residency at Villa Lena, Nasr was struck by the likeness between the colours of the Villa itself and that of the sun-dried Egyptian architecture and earth. The perspective and depth conveyed by the print draw us in as viewers yet the piece is curtained by a red brushstroke.
ALL PROCEEDS FROM PRINT SALES WILL GO TOWARDS SUPPORTING THE VILLA LENA FOUNDATION.
