Limited Edition Print – Alan Reid, Untitled, 2015

Alan Reid, an artist from the US, residing in New York City, is renowned for his ethereal, coloured-pencil representations. His evocative images portray heiresses, fashionistas, and graceful beauties, exuding a provocative lightness. The delicate colouring matches the elegance of his subjects. Reid's artistry has been showcased in prestigious exhibitions at Patricia Low Contemporary in Gstaad, Lisa Cooley in New York (where he co-organized the exhibition 'Air de Pied-à-terre A Pallazzo' in Brescia), Mary Mary in Glasgow, Galerie Jacky Strenz in Frankfurt, Talbot Rice in Edinburgh, and he is included in the second edition of Phaidon's "Vitamin D."

In this limited edition print, Reid embraces the historical significance of II Bisonte, the print studio where it was created. Reflecting on the studio's engagement with European artists such as Moore, Matisse, and Picasso, Reid contemplated early-20th-century artistic motifs used in the United States to create his imagery. The print features a striking zebra, reminiscent of A.E. Marty's famous 1926 Vogue cover, rearing up against a fiery backdrop borrowed from a work by the enigmatic social realist artist Ben Shahn. In referencing US counterparts of the European artists who previously worked with Il Bistone, Reid addresses specific styles of the period while bringing their influence into the present day.
