Limited Edition Print - Nika Neelova, Untitled, 2013
Nika Neelova, a London-based artist, intricately weaves reclaimed architectural elements into captivating sculptures. Her focus lies in unravelling the relationship between materials, architecture, and our perceptions of time and place. Her unconventional approach embraces "reverse archaeology," breathing life into discarded objects and reimagining their narratives beyond functionality. These sculptures transcend eras, forming part of larger cycles that freeze moments in time.
Neelova's transformative artistry liberates objects from their original meanings, decoding and recoding their essence. She conjures a dialogue between human touch and history with each creation, inviting us to witness the latent potency within materials and contemplate the stories they embody. Experience Neelova's profound exploration of time, memory, and the human imprint through her evocative sculptures.
Transitioning from three-dimensional objects to two-dimensional planes, Neelova embarked on a new artistic journey while creating her etching. Her thought-provoking work delves into the intricate relationship between art and time's passage, prompting viewers to ponder impermanence and memory. On her print, she quoted Jorge Luis Borges: “I know I'm accused of arrogance, even madness. These accusations are ludicrous. It's true I never leave home, but its infinite doors are open day and night to humans and animals. Anyone can enter. This house is unparalleled, with countless repeating parts. Each place is another place. Countless wellheads, courtyards, troughs exist. The house is as vast as the world—or rather, it is the world.” Borges' words resonated with Neelova's ethos, evoking boundless exploration within confined space. Her etching mirrors Borges' vision of an infinite house, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnected nature of art, existence, and time.
